I dont remember the last time a book touched me as much as this one did. The story of nine-year-old Oskar searching New York City for the lock which belongs to the key he found in his deceased fathers closet alternates between extremely funny and incredibly sad passages. While following Oskar on his quest, the book skillfully combines the repercussions of the recent, large-scale tragedy of 9/11 with past decades of family history. One laughs and suffers with Oskar, as he has to learn how to cope with the loss and disappointment, but also the beauty of life.
